Data Warehousing - 23 March 2004

Yet another full house for this event held at the Touchbase Centre in Swindon. This area of Data Management proved to be very popular with DAMA UK members. BCS were represented by Ian Quilty, who talked about the relationship between DAMA UK and BCS. Further presentations were made by Mike Ferguson, David Hebbes and Mike Jenkins. Speaker Profiles and Presentations

Ian Quilty is an experienced IS consultant who currently specialises in the Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing areas.  He was initially involved in Data Management around 14 years ago, when he worked in the team implementing a Data Administration function at a large commercial organization. Ian moved on to provide consulting expertise in development tools, development methods and defining the development processes to effectively use these tools.  This included defining Data Management standards and procedures for clients. Finally Ian has moved into the Data Warehousing area.  This involves using his Data Management experience to understand and overcome the issues of implementing a single corporate model within a Data Warehouse solution. Ian is currently the Chair of the BCS Data Management Specialist Group. He has been involved in the running of the group for a number of years. He is present today representing the BCS Data Management Specialist Group.

Mike Ferguson is the Managing Director of Intelligent Business Strategies Ltd in the UK. As an analyst and consultant he specialises in database systems, business intelligence, enterprise application integration, corporate and e-business portals, customer relationship management and supply chain intelligent business solutions. With over 21 years of IT experience, Mike has consulted for dozens of companies, spoken at events all over the world and written numerous articles. Formerly he was principle and co-founder of Codd and Date UK and a chief architect on the Teradata DBMS.

David Hebbes s a consultant with SchlumbagerSema.  David was involved in a challenging data warehouse implementation within the Vehicle Inspectorate.  David presentation explained how the challenges were overcome to successfully implement the data warehouse and how Avellino was part of that success.

Mike Jenkins is based at RAF Wyton in Cambridgeshire. Mike was heavily involved with a Teradata pilot project which introduced a data warehouse in support of the Sea King helicopter programme.  Mike's presentation described  his experiences and the lessons learned from the project.
