The Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP)

from DAMA International and the Institute for Certification of Computer Professionals

DAMA International Logo

The CDMP or Certified Data Management Professional certification was jointly developed by DAMA International (DAMA-I) and the Institute for Certification of Computer Professionals (ICCP). DAMA-I owns the CDMP certification, and ICCP administers and delivers exams and provides all record keeping.

The Institute for the Certification of Computing Professionals is a USA-based institution for professional certification in the computer engineering and information technology industry.

To gain the CDMP certification you must pass three (3) examinations, all of which are computer-based multiple-choice examinations. One of these examinations is the Information Systems CORE Examination. The other two (2) examinations are chosen from a small pool of speciality examinations, allowing the individual to focus on their own areas of interest. These speciality examinations are:

  • Data Management
  • Database Administration
  • Data Warehousing
  • Data & Information Quality
  • Zachman Enterprise Architecture Framework 2
  • Business Process Management
  • Business Intelligence & Analytics
  • System Security
  • Systems Development

Candidates who pass the examinations with an average score that is greater than 70% receive the 'Masters' designation. Those that pass the examination but do not obtain a 70% score receive the 'Practitioners' designation. Candidates can retake examinations to upgrade from 'Practitioners' to 'Masters'.

Each examination must be proctored (invigilated) by a certified CDMP in good standing. This can be arranged through the UK Chapter of DAMA for candidates who are resident within the UK or who are prepared to travel to the UK.

After certification there is a continuing requirement to pay an annual membership fee to ICCP and to register 120 credits of mandatory Personal Development units in Data Management with ICCP every 3 years to keep the CDMP certification in good standing.

Further details are available on the DAMA-I website and on the ICCP website.

We'll be offering members CDMP certification classes early in the new year. E-mail us to register your interest and we'll contact you when the dates are confirmed.
