Nigel is an information management consultant with Global Data Strategy Ltd, specialising in data strategy, data quality and data governance. Overall he has worked in data management for over 25 years, spending much of his career in British Telecommunications (BT) where he led a company wide data quality improvement programme, provided data management consultancy to many of BT’s major corporate customers, and ran information management and CRM practices. Since leaving BT, Nigel has worked in a variety of consultancy roles, providing help and advice to over 150 global companies. He is a regular speaker, tutor and chair at information management and CRM conferences, and has written many papers and articles on data management and CRM. He is also the co-founder (with DAMA UK’s Neil Harvey) of our award winning Data Professionals’ Mentorship programme.
Nigel believes passionately that the key to better data management is winning the hearts and minds of both business people and IT professionals so that they see data as a critical corporate asset and are willing to work together to protect, improve and exploit it. To do this the data management professional must be able to explain data challenges and opportunities in simple terms to non-specialists, and prove the direct business benefits of better data. As the great jazz musician Charles Mingus once said, “Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that's creativity."
